“Where is the Dragon?”

While reading a book, I was inspired to create this fabulous scene in 3D. Leo has created a fantastic composition and I wanted to use all of the knowledge I’ve gained over the years with modelling, texturing, lighting, rendering and compositing in Blender to try and recreate a “flat” 3D character.

The Breakdown

Originally I went in with trying to create just a single knight, Knight 2. But as I applied Subsurface Scattering (SSS), hair and a light in the scene, I was pretty sold on making the entire thing in Blender.

Honestly, I really loved the book - the style is so iconic and being able to transfer that into a software that I know well, was very rewarding. Leo Timmers plays with light and shape in such a way that translates especially well in 3D.

I had a great time playing with this project!
